YoQuai Vernon Lavala

YoQuai Vernon Lavala is a senior private and financial sector specialist with over 15 years of experience bridging private sector investment facilitation with strategic central bank and financial policy alignment across West Africa. He brings a proven track record of managing DFI-linked lending operations, directing complex advisory engagements in business environment reform, and driving financial inclusion through digital transformation. Combining market systems analytics with direct private equity experience, Mr. Lavala collaborates closely with central banks, financial institutions, and international investors to de-risk markets and accelerate capital deployment in frontier economies. He currently serves as Operations Officer for the International Finance Corporation (IFC) under the Africa Fragility Initiative, where he leads the Local Champions Initiative in West Africa. In this capacity, he builds sustainable pipelines of domestic sponsors and bankable investment opportunities, uniting private firms, commercial lenders, and public sector leadership to catalyze private investment in fragile and frontier markets. As Managing Director of NaYa Resources, Mr. Lavala served as Senior Country Advisor for the Africa Resilience Investment Accelerator (ARIA), convening 15 major DFIs—including BII, FMO, and US DFC—to unlock co-lending mechanisms and strategic private sector investments. Previously, he was the Chief of Party for Adam Smith International leading GROW Liberia, an agricultural private sector development program that collaborated with businesses, local financial institutions, investors, and government agencies to create systemic solutions for the agriculture sector. Mr. Lavala launched his professional trajectory at the General Electric Company in the United States, where he occupied various strategic leadership roles. His tenure included serving as Global Finance Manager for GE Healthcare and as a Global Audit Manager within the Corporate Audit Staff. Subsequently, he transitioned to Liberia to embark on his entrepreneurial career, establishing himself as a key distributor of prepaid services for the major mobile network operators and managing other private investments.Mr. Lavala holds a B.Sc. in Accounting from Livingstone College in North Carolina, USA, and an MBA from Kennesaw State University in Georgia, USA.
