Biography

Karlis Bauze is a Senior Financial Sector Specialist at the World Bank's Financial Sector Advisory Centre, specializing in non-performing loan resolution and corporate financial viability studies. He joined the World Bank in 2016. Previously, he served as a Policy Analyst at the European Commission (EC) in Athens, Greece. There, he represented the EC at the Hellenic Financial Stability Fund and collaborated with the International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank on the Greek economic adjustment program from 2013 to 2015. Prior to this, he headed the Monetary Policy and Financial Stability Department at the Bank of Latvia for five years, including during Latvia's financial crisis. His responsibilities included working in the Governor’s Office, representing Latvia on the Economic and Financial Committee of the European Union, contributing to Latvia's economic adjustment program, and working on financial stability. Earlier in his career, he spent over 13 years working in financial markets, notably as Chief Dealer for reserve management in the Market Operations Department at the Bank of Latvia. He holds a Master’s degree in finance from the University of Latvia and has passed the CFA exam.
