Cllr. Bornor Massamai Varmah

Cllr. Bornor Massamai Varmah hails from Gbarpolu County, Republic of Liberia, and currently serves as Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of the Law Reform Commission of the Republic of Liberia. He is the immediate past National President of the Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA) and currently serves as President of the West African Bar Association (WABA), having previously served as its Vice President and as Secretary-General of the LNBA. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Management from the University of Liberia, a law degree from the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, and a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Trade Law from the University of Turin, Italy, conferred in partnership with the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and the International Labour Organization (ILO). He has practiced law under Liberia's jurisprudence for over seventeen (17) years. A career public servant, Cllr. Varmah has held senior government positions, including Legal Counsel and Acting Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Crimes Unit at the Ministry of Justice, Assistant Minister at the Ministry of Labour, and Senior Elections Magistrate at the National Elections Commission. He has represented Liberia on the ECOWAS Committee of Experts on several regional labour and social security instruments, and has provided legal and policy consultancy to the World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Liberian National Bar Association. Cllr. Varmah is happily married to Cllr. and Deacon Bhatur Cora Holmes-Varmah, and their union is blessed with four (4) children.
