Biography

Mr. Bello Hassan, is the immediate past Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC). He was also an Executive Council (EXCO) Member of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI), the Vice Chair of Africa Regional Committee (ARC) of IADI and was a member of the Council Committees of IADI (Analysis Council Committee, Implementation Council Committee, as well as Policy Council Committee). Bello also served on the Core Principles Review as well as the Governance Working Group of IADI. Prior to joining the NDIC, he spent 31 years at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) where he was at the forefront of the on-site/off-site supervision of banks and other financial institutions as well as tackling financial stability issues. In 2019, Mr. Hassan was appointed Director, Other Financial Institutions Supervision Department of the CBN. He was redeployed as Director, Banking Supervision Department of the Apex Bank in February 2020. He was the MD/CEO of NDIC between 2021 and 2025. As the Director, Banking Supervision Department, he represented the CBN on the Boards of the NDIC, Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), Financial Institutions Training Center (FITC), FMDQ Clear Ltd. and the Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN). Mr. Bello Hassan holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Accounting and an MBA from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He also holds a Diploma in Business Continuity Management from Coventry University, UK. He is currently a PhD student in Financial Sector Regulation with the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Nigeria. Mr. Hassan is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN). He is also a recipient of the National Hounor Award of OON (Order of the Niger).
